Adidas is not an acronym of All Day I Dream About Sports.
The ADIDAS was launched by two brothers called "Adolf Dasler" and "Rudolf Dasler". Adolf nick name was "Adi". They've opted to start a business that will make shoes (originally) and termed it ADIDAS (Adi +Das) on the title of one brother.
And after seperation "Rudolf" began its own business which produces same goods as Adidas produce and named "RUDA" but after a while the title has been changed to "PUMA"
Adolf Dassler was motivated by one idea when he made his first shoes in 1920, at the age of just 20. His vision was to provide every athlete with the best footwear for his respective field. It was this principle that guided him right up until his death in 1978. 700 patents and other industrial property rights globally are evidence of his permanent quest for perfection.
His first shoe, made in the few materials available in the difficult post-war period, was made from canvas. A passionate athlete, from the very beginning Adi Dassler was in close contact with sports participants and has been constantly present in person at significant sports events. Adi Dassler concentrated his work on the traditional disciplines of track and field.
Trainers wore special shoes out of his workshop for the first time in the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam. In the mid 1920s he was already experimenting with spikes. In the mid 1930s Adi Dassler was making 30 distinct shoes for eleven sports, and he had a work force of nearly 100 employees. In less than two decades adidas advanced to become the world's top sports shoe maker. Following the chaos of the Second World War, Adi Dassler made a new beginning. In 1947, with 47 employees, he started putting into practice the knowledge gained from the pre-war period and also new ideas. Adi Dassler made the initial post-war sports shoes with rubber and yarn from American gas tanks. In 1948 he introduced adidas as the company name, a mix of his own first and last name. 1 year later he enrolled the - to this day - unmistakable Three Stripes.
